dc.descriptionThis book explores various aspects of work with Sami traditional knowledge. The articles highlight community work, legal questions and legislation, ethics of documentation, institutional relationships, history and identity, information technologies, transmission, management and legitimacy of traditional knowledge. The book is a result of the Árbediehtu Pilot Project on the documentation and protection of Sami traditional knowledge. The project was conducted in the period 2008–2011 by five indigenous Sami institutions: Sámi University College, Árran – Lule Sami Centre, Sea Sami Centre of Expertise (Mearrasámi diehtoguovddáš), Saemien Sijte – South Sami Museum and Cultural Centre, and the museum association RiddoDuottarMuseat. Article summaries are provided in North, Lule and South Sami languages. This collection of articles is for students, researchers, educators, policy makers, museum and archive staff and anyone else interested in Sami traditional knowledge.
